ECO DESIGN

Elephant Watch Camp, bedroom, eco design, eco friendly, sustainability, conservation, wild safaris, wildlife safaris, Samburu National Reserve, Elephant Watch Portfolio, Nairobi, Kenya

Our six en-suite tents are crafted from all-natural materials, including trees felled by elephants, and stand in woodland by the Ewaso Nyiro river. We live by our eco-principles, so our electricity comes from the sun, our food is locally sourced from the foothills of Mt. Kenya or grown on our organic farm in Naivasha, and we carefully manage and recycle our waste. We are deeply conscious of our duty as guardians of this wilderness, and nothing makes us happier than being able to share it with you.

We believe eco-tourism plays an important role in helping preserve Africa’s threatened wildlife by providing a critical alternative livelihood for the people who share their land with the animals. We are closely connected to Save the Elephants, whose pioneering conservation work you will see and experience by staying with us. Money from eco-tourism allows wildlife areas to flourish and be kept pristine; creating jobs for local staff and funding the schools their children attend, which helps save wildlife.

ACTIVITIES

Our years spent among Samburu’s elephants means that the herds are now so habituated to our specially modified open vehicles and expert guides that they allow us right into the heart of their family groups. We’re also experts on the big cats and part of a Lion Watch monitoring programme that gets us first on the scene. Guests often tell us that some of their most cherished moments were visiting our nomadic neighbours in the Samburu communities who welcomed them like long-lost friends.

OUR GUESTS APPRECIATE THE WAY WE LOOK AFTER THEM

“Never in my life could I have imagined such beauty, generosity, warmth, kindness and magnificent natural wonders. I will never forget my time here and it will stay in my heart always as one of the most amazing of my days on this earth. Thank you EWC family and friends for the single most amazing vacation of my life.” – E. Heald

“I once stayed in an amazing place called Elephant Watch Camp. The buildings are made out of the trees that elephants had knocked over and your shower water was gathered from a well. It was lovely and felt like a part of the environment. It is probably the most special place I’ve ever been to.” – Natalie Portman in Marie Claire, South Africa
